Identification of aggregation pheromones in two Sitona species

The two Sitona species Sitona lepidus and Sitona discoideus have been established in New Zealand, with both species causing considerable crop losses, mainly in red, white clover, and lucerne. Although, aggregation pheromones have been identified for many species belong to this genus, no information available on the chemical communication system in these two species. The objective of this project:
-
Identification of the aggregation pheromone for both species.
-
Identification of host plant signal associated with aggregation behaviour.
-
Study the interaction between host volatile and aggregation pheromone.
-
Develop pheromone-trapping system to monitor and control these two species.
